Getting your learner’s permit

If you’re looking at getting your licence you need to know what the country and state requirements are. Keep in mind that rules are not the same in every country. If you hold a foreign licence, find out if it is recognised by the state you are in. Here are a few other pointers to get your licence.
- You first need a learner’s driving permit. The age limit for the permit varies in different countries. In Australia you have to be at least 16 years of age to apply for a learners permit.
- The next step is to fill out at application for the permit. You need to show the officials’ proof of identity and residency documents.
- You have to be declared mentally fit to get your learner’s permit. Your eyesight may be checked.
- Pay the fees and pass the road rules test which is computerised and usually a multiple choice test. The results are given immediately. You have to get at least 70% to pass the test. You are then granted your learner’s permit. You can apply for your licence after a certain time limit. There are few rules that have to be followed when you have a learner’s permit.
- The learner has to be accompanied by driver holding a permanent licence for than a year. The rules for applying for a permanent licence differ from country to country. For instance in Australia, you need to hold the learner’s permit for more than a year and complete more 100 hours of supervised driving, including ten hours of night driving.
- You now have the option of going to driving school or asking your parents to step in! There are driving schools that teach you everything you need know about driving and get you ready for the permanent licence. This includes everything about road safety, road rules and other regulations. Driving schools combine theoretical training with practical training. You have to prepare for the written and final driving test to obtain your licence.
